The Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL) is a quicker and often cheaper alternative to the full Private Pilot Licence (PPL) while still offering most of the same advantages. It is important to know that the pilots that hold a LAPL are trained to the same high standards and held in as high regard as PPL holders. The purpose of the LAPL is somewhat different to the PPL, however the skills and abilities obtained will make you a safe and highly skilled pilot licence holder.
The LAPL is best suited to those who wish to fly light aircraft socially with friends and family in the UK and have no desire to fly larger aircraft, become a commercial pilot, flight instructor rating or add other skills or rating at a later date.
Significant numbers of pilots will never exceed the privileges afforded by the LAPL, making the LAPL a perfect choice for the majority of students, and if you change your mind, you can always convert your licence to a full PPL later.

The Light Aircraft Private Pilots Licence (LAPL) course at Aerohire combines both practical flight training and the theoretical knowledge required to fly light aircraft within the UK. In real terms most pilots will require between 40-50 hours of training – Aerohire are open and honest and unlike other schools we believe in being transparrent from the outset.
